Product Care
Crafted by hand. Meant to be worn carefully and kept beautifully.
Maison Gil New York pieces are delicate evening garments that may include embroidery, beading, mesh, tulle, corsetry, stretch lining, and hand-finished construction. Thoughtful care helps preserve the shape, finish, and detail of your piece over time.
Before You Wear
- Try on your garment with clean hands and after makeup, fragrance, hairspray, and body products have fully dried.
- Avoid rough jewelry, sharp nails, watches, embellished bags, or surfaces that may catch delicate fabric or hand-applied detail.
- If your piece arrives with light creasing from transit, hang it in a well-ventilated space and use light steam from the reverse side only. Keep steam away from embellishment, adhesive trims, feathers, and specialty finishes.
During Wear
- Avoid prolonged friction against rough walls, textured seating, or handbags with heavy hardware.
- Take extra care when zipping corseted or close-fitting styles. Do not force closures.
- Protect the garment from rain, heavy moisture, oils, perfume, deodorant transfer, and makeup.
After Wear
- Hang the piece briefly to air after use.
- Spot treat only by blotting gently with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub.
- For embellished or structured styles, never machine wash, soak, wring, bleach, or tumble dry.
Cleaning
Professional dry cleaning only, and only when needed. Always use a cleaner experienced with couture, occasionwear, embellishment, and delicate construction.
Please advise your cleaner that the garment may include hand-applied trim, embroidery, lining structure, mesh, or boning. Do not use home-cleaning kits or household remedies.
Storage
- Store in a breathable garment bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
- Use a padded hanger for lighter styles. For heavily embellished gowns, we recommend supporting the weight carefully and avoiding long-term strain on the straps or neckline.
- Keep the piece away from rough surfaces and crowded rails to prevent snagging or crushing detail.
Travel
- Transport your garment in a full-length garment bag whenever possible.
- Upon arrival, hang it immediately and allow the fabric time to relax before steaming lightly if needed.
- Avoid tightly compressing heavily embellished pieces inside overpacked luggage.
Alterations and Repairs
Any alterations should be completed by a specialist familiar with eveningwear, corsetry, and embellished garments. Unauthorized alterations, repair work, or cleaning damage may affect return eligibility.
